Live Response is an award winning educational/informational program produced by the National Terrorism Preparedness Institute (NTPI) of St. Petersburg College - a 60-minute satellite television broadcast and web cast featuring news styled program segments and dynamic panel discussions with leading experts who share their knowledge and experiences about terrorism awareness, prevention, preparedness, response and recovery.  Hosted by local television anchor, Al Ruechel, each program offers insightful news, unique perspectives and fascinating discussion. Join us for our next program.  It’s your program for valuable information!

Program Description:  Imagine entering a classroom in full riot gear – an automatic weapon at your side as you breathe through a gas mask.  Then the instructor tells you you’ll need to capture three terrorists and disarm a deadly chemical bomb - all of this on a Thursday afternoon.  Not your typical classroom mind you.  Fortunately, in this incident, the bomb was fake and the terrorists were actors.  But the scenario offered very real training for 20 police officers dressed in SWAT gear as they recently stormed an abandoned warehouse.  In February’s episode of Live Response, our camera’s visit a unique tactical exercise for terrorist response that takes place near Orlando, Florida.  It’s part of a very hands-on simulated training program offered by LSU’s National Center for Biomedical Research and Training center (NCBRT). The Advanced Tactical Operations class offers five days of intensified training that ends with terrorist situations participants must respond to.  Working in real-life 24-like events, this class includes first responders being taught how to prepare for the possibility of working in and around weapons of mass destruction.  Offered through funding from the Department of Homeland Security, we’ll look at how this course provides tactical commanders, operators and support personnel with knowledge, skills and abilities to command, plan, equip, train and exercise tactical teams for safe and effective response to such incidents.  Our panel of experts will discuss CBRNE considerations, linear target response tactics, tactical movements, site surveys and pre-incident planning.  Join us for one of America’s most unique classroom training experiences on the next Live Response.

Key Learning Objectives for this program:

- Plan and prepare for conducting tactical operations in a CBRNE environment against a linear target.
- Learn about employing tactical response personnel in an effective manner in WMD situations.
- How to conduct a site survey and complete pre-incident planning based on intelligence information and field visits.
